शास्त्रकोषः

अरक्षमाणाः  कुर्वन्ति यत्किञ्चित् किल्बिषं प्रजाः ।

तस्मात्तु नृपतेरर्धं यस्माद् गृह्णात्यसौ करान् ॥ (याज्ञवल्क्यस्मृतिः १.३३७)

ರಾಜನಿಂದ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲ್ಪಡುವ ಪ್ರಜೆಗಳು ಎಸಗಿದ ಪಾಪಕೃತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಧಭಾಗವು ರಾಜನಿಗೆ ಸೇರುವುದು. ಪ್ರಜೆಗಳ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಅವರಿಂದ ತೆರಿಗೆಯನ್ನು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸುವ ರಾಜನು ಪ್ರಜೆಗಳ ಪಾಪಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲುದಾರನಾಗುವನು.

राजा के द्वारा रक्षण न की जानेवाली प्रजा के पापकर्मों का आधा भाग राजा को मिलता है । प्रजा की रक्षा के लिये उनसे कर लेनेवाले राजा को प्रजा के पापों का हिस्सा मिलता है।

The king who does not protect his subject obtains the half portion of the sinful works done by them . The king who demands the tax from the subject for their protection, also bears the share of their sins .  

शास्त्रकोषः

इज्याध्ययनदानानि तपः सत्यं क्षमा घृणा ।

अलोभ इति मार्गोऽयं धर्मस्याष्टविधः स्मृतः ॥

तत्र पूर्वचतुर्वर्गो दम्भार्थमपि सेव्यते ।

उत्तरश्च चतुर्वर्गो नामहात्मसु तिष्ठति ॥

(याज्ञवल्क्यमृतिः १.११८)

ಪೂಜೆ, ಯಾಗಾದಿಗಳು, ವೇದಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಾದಿ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ, ದಾನ, ತಪಸ್ಸು, ಸತ್ಯನುಡಿ, ಅಪಕಾರವನ್ನು ಸಹಿಸುವ ತಾಳ್ಮೆ, ದುಃಖಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕರುಣೆ, ಲೋಭವಿಲ್ಲದಿರುವುದು – ಇದು ಎಂಟು ವಿಧವಾದ ಧರ್ಮದ ಮಾರ್ಗ.

पूजन-यज्ञयाग, वेदशास्त्रों का अध्ययन, दानधर्म, तपस्या, सत्यवाणी, सहनशीलता, दुखियों के प्रति करुणाभावना, लोभ का अभाव यह आठ प्रकार के धर्ममार्ग हैं।

इनमें से पहले चार- पूजा-यज्ञ, अध्ययन, दान और तपस्या यह दांभिक लोगों में भी दिखाई देते हैं । अन्तिम चार-सत्य, सहनशीलता, करुणा, लोभशून्यता यह तो केवल महात्माओं में ही नजर आते हैं ।

The eight types of ways towards the Dharma are- The worship and sacrifice (Yajna), study, charity, penance, truth, tolerance, compassion to the sorrowful, and lack of desire.

The first four- worship- sacrifice, study, charity and penance are found in the people who are the false followers, but the later four are only found in the great personalities.
